Re: Datto_610's 180B - Cert Prepping!
Sorry to keep you all in suspense!! Went away for the weekend with the girlfriend pretty much straight after getting the car back Friday evening. Friday was a hectic mission that's for sure! I dropped the car off to my good mates at Eastside Auto's in Ferrymead on Wednesday for them to go over the car and fix any minor things I may have missed. One thing that still baffles me is that on Tuesday night when I was finishing up all the last minute things I hopped in the car and moved it so I could get out first in the morning. I heard this "clunk clunk" sound from the steering when I moved the wheel.... jacked her back up to inspect what was going on and found out that the idler arm bushes were GONE!! without a trace!! So that was just fantastic! Drove it to work the next day hoping to get some bushes from work but the ones nolathane list are different... called Stocks and got the right ones in overnight. The guys at Eastside fitted them for me and also tightened up the driveshaft hoop bolts..... and cut one them down as it was hitting the exhaust. Wayne the owner said there was basically bugger all he could see that it needed for a wof anyway. Mainly put a new o-ring on the fuel sender as when I filled the tank up for the first time fuel was weeping out the top quite a bit and was fumy as f$@k! also mentioned that the outer CV boot clamp on the drivers side must be hitting the body as it keeps breaking , Iv'e fitted 3 clamps so far! so may need to do some clearencing above the CV. Also when I pulled up to Eastside on fri with Wal's trailer the bloody trailer got a puncture!! Part of a cutting blade managed to find it's way into one of the tyres!! Luckily they were able to put a quill seal in and sealed the puncture! Managed to make it to cert a bit later than anticipated but I got her there! Unfortunately it wasn't a pass BUT the news isn't all bad!! The list is very easy to do and with 2 months to do it the 180 will be hitting the streets of Christchurch very soon!!
So without further delay here is what needs fixing.
*Supply factory wheel alignment specs (will photocopy the page in my Hayne's manual at work tomorrow)
*Supply specs for braided fuel line (went to the Hydraulink website after dropping car off and printed off specs and gave them to Ian when I picked up the car)
*Strengthen gearbox X-member (Just needs some flat bar or something welded along the edges to stop it from flexing)
*Increase clearence between sump and sway bar (he said to just put some packing between the bushes and body to space it out a bit more)
*Secure front brake hoses (he didn't mention this to me when I was there but will have to do something)
*Fit left front steering arm stop (for some reason it was missing always has been have some R30 steering knuckles in the garage will rob the bolt off one)
*Remove ball joint spacers (RCA's) for inspection. (I talked to him a bit more about this when I went back but think it's all good now, he was a little confused by the pics I provided)
*Fit spring washers to rear caliper mount bolts (easy!!)
*Engine checklight required (after a bit of chatting about this I mentioned that the ECU has indicator lights so may just get a photo as proof)
*Remedy fuel smell (caused by leaking sender o-ring, also the breather hose that goes through the floor was just sitting in the boot... he put it back where it's meant to be for me)
Here is a couple of other things he wants me to do that aren't on the list:
*Replace gearbox tunnel boot with a good condition one.
*Tack weld the adjustable sleeves to the collar on strut just to make sure it definitely won't move (I'm pretty sure it won't but not going to argue)
Ian is such a good guy to deal with and is very happy with the things Iv'e done. I was expecting a lot worse! So I better get on to it!!

Good work Greg, looks like all easy stuff. I wonder why the engine check light is required? Seems a bit odd.

Good work!
Yeah strange on the check light. That's not a safety issue at all so shouldn't be an issue

Is the oil pressure light not enough? or not working?
Did the 180sx even have a checklight? seems a bit strange to me too
