Hey guys.
just wanting some advice on what are a good upgrade/what fits in the way of decent brakes for a 140J
would like to upgrade both front and rear.
rear is a H165 standard with drums.
The brakes I would like would need to fit under 14"....or maybe 15" wheels
and be good enough to stop the 140J with a CA18DET in it.
my last 10 years of datto expereince has all been with 510's....so I dont know bugger all about solid axle setups e.t.c.

Re: 140J brake/suspension upgrade
solid axle stuff is easy. Hasn't damon got a kit for h165 diffs?
Front just go s13, or if you want slightly etter go primera rotors and r33 non turbo front calipers. That will give you a 260x20mm disc and it fits nicely under 14" rims or keep the 280m r33 rotors if you want to go 15" rims. making a caliper bracket is easy for pretty much all single pots

I dont know what the kit is that damon does lol
as far as the S13 goes.....how do you go about that?
is that using S13 hubs? and S13 strut?

s13 rotors and calipers, laser cut adapter to suit. Same deal you any brake setup really. Fail that I guess you could do a strut swap but that would probably work out more expensive in the long run.
Once I get all setup in the new place you can drop a strut round and I can sort something out if you want
I think damons kit included a lasercut bracket and primera rotors and bluebird calipers and it all bolted onto the h165. then you just needed to sort brake hoses and handbrake cables

Re: 140J brake/suspension upgrade
ah.....I thought you were saying to do primera rotors and r33 non turbo callipers on the S13 hub lol
na im happy to stay with the struts we got if that'll work.
so the primera rotors will fit up to the 140J hubs? and what model primera?
that sounds like the go for the front.....sounds like a decent set of brakes under a 14" rim
as far as the back goes.....Im not convinced the H165 would be strong enough to handle the power/abuse
but again.....I dont know a lot about these solid axle diffs

Re: 140J brake/suspension upgrade
p11 primera rotors or u12 bluebird rotors, you may have to turn down the OD of the 140j hub, i'm not sure, I didn't on the 1200 but they have tiny hubs.
H165 will handle a bit of abuse from a more or less stock ca18det. If you lean on them a bit hard or plan on modifying the ca they are probably a bit borderline.

Re: 140J brake/suspension upgrade
i have an h165 in the back of the 2 door, which is why i have decided to go turbo instead of the supercharger, however im a bit of a nana when it comes to abusing cars ,so it should be fine, if your planing on leaning on the engine for more power, you may need a bigger diff, or skinny tyres for less grip and less strees on the diff

Re: 140J brake/suspension upgrade
yeah damo and I have the same rear brakes. (More or less) U13 rear discs and calipers. Just keep an eye out for some at the right price. As for the fronts, it isn't a hard mission to adapt something bigger to your existing struts. seeing as how it started life powered by a big heavy L series, the stub axle should be hefty enough to warrant not replacing it.
Or you could just do a strut swap and be done with it.
