Can someone please tell me the distance between the two pitman arms on a datsun 1600
or the mathematical formula to work out what the theory is behind The Ackermann Angle.

I cant remember schooling

edit: google is my friend found this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ackermann_ ... g_geometry" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but this part made my ears perk up.
WIKI wrote: Some race cars use reverse Ackermann geometry to compensate for the large difference in slip angle between the inner and outer front tyres while cornering at high speed. The use of such geometry helps reduce tyre temperatures during high-speed cornering but compromises performance in low speed maneuvers.
can someone shed some light on this

as you have dismantled your adjustable drag link, you need the factory measurement between the idler, and the pitman arm ball joints. That is the critical measurement, as it's normally a fixed value. The length of the tie rods can be set up afterwards with a tape measure. Thats how I did the toe adjustmant on my 1200, and it doesn't steer funny, or wear tyres out.

don't go with reverse ackerman you'll just scrub out tyres and it'll be a cunt to turn at slow speeds. As long as you have a little positive ackerman you're fine. But like bart said, if you set your adjustable draglink to the same length a std 1600 one you'll be ok. This will also reduce the likely hood of bumpsteer.
