I'm no home theater buff but I got a panasonic blue ray home theater and a panasonic 50" Plasma and I love it. Has good sound quality etc. Seems pretty sweet to me.
Has wireless rear speakers too which is nice.

I wouldn't call myself a buff either but I have had a bit to do with quality sound equipment. I have a Onkyo system and in my opinion has great clarity and sound

More important question is what do you want it for? There are many different decent brands but some perform better than others within certain areas. Onkyo, Sony, Yamaha, Bose, Clarion etc all have decent products but more depends on your application.
Drop us a PM if you have any further/specific queries and would be happy to help. Personally I have an all Sony Home Theatre setup with running 7.2 surround sound...

Yes it depends what you want it for. If you want a nice audio system for home (Hi Fidelity Sound) that is mostly for listening to music and dedicated to sound quality then you want to go with a Yamaha amplifier or similar with some PSB speakers or similar. Check out
http://www.strawberrysound.co.nz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for advice on Hi-Fi systems and high end home theater.
However, if you are just after your standard run of the mill home theater then the NEW Samsung blue ray surround sound systems are nice. The older samsungs suffered from laser failure often and were a POS.
The sony's are ugly and have in recent years relied on their old tag of favourites to sell stuff. As one person noted ONKYO are all good bang for buck and VERY popular in Japan. Would be one of my choices for low to medium range for sure.
So High end see strawberry sound as they do know their shit.
For medium and low range look at an ONKYO and Samsung.

Cnet has a really good review system IMO.
Great way to find out the pros and cons of any system you may be looking at before buying.

I like using CNet too...a good place to start as well once you know what you are looking for.
