Hi All, I am looking at getting insurance for my 1600.
I wanna know:

1. Who have you insured your Datsun with.
2. Is it agreed/set value or market value,
3. Excess amount
4. Premium indication if not asking too much
5. How you have felt dealing with said insurance company.

Thanks in advance for ya help.

Despite Club Auto having a really stupid and annoying Tv Ad I got my 300zx insured with them.

I am 21 & I have the Z insured for 9K market value ( i think it states whichever is lower ) and of course it is declares as modified 3.0 Ltr Turbo and 2 door coupe

which pretty much rings all the bells for " oh shit don't give this guy insurance" I pay around $62 a month or $900 a year

I have a perfectly clean driving record with 0 demerit points in 6 years.

if you go onto their website they have a lot of specific situations suited to modified and classic cars that regular insurance does not cover & I have found them very easy and polite to deal with.

My excess for me is $850 I think which is pretty bloody good considering my age and a modified turbo car.

Classic car vero insurance would not insure me

AMI wound not insure me ( despite perfect record & history with them for 5 years )

NAC was much more expensive than Club auto but had pretty simialr policy and stuff

I hope you find that helpful Ging - you should have much less trouble being that your over the magical 25 so automatically you get a bit more choice in the matter

agreed club auto is the best ive found and make sure u get a first right of buy back written into your policy that way if anything does happen to your pride and joy and they pay out you can get it back and start repairs/ or salvage wats left of it. ive heard good things about nac as well but i haven't talked to them yet best bet would be to ring around and find out what they will do for ya

If you have a modified classic or even standard classic than i would be going with swann insurance.

They only do classic cars and motorcycles and you can have a trackday section put in too.

iv insured the Y for $12k and it costs me $225 for the year full cover including glass and is $250 excess on any accident or break in.

Also if you have another classic - say daily sunny etc - the cost drops for additional cars - i knw the second one is only $165

You could also try Classic Cover Insurance Ltd.
I have my Impala and Golf insured with them.
Impala premium is about $400 a year, with agreed value of $50k. Includes cover for $5k of "detached spares" (spare parts stored in my garage). A huge bonus is that if it's damaged in an accident, I don't need to have it repaired, but can take the equivalent cash payout and fix it myself etc.

Datsun's are cheap to fix, insure yourself (if you trust your driving) then you don't have to worry about excesses, and it's not money down the gurgler. You also need to be a good saver, set aside another account and put $40 in it each month. Give it a couple of years, and you would have saved enough to cover any accident :D

You'll find even if you are insured, you still have to go to small claims for the insurance company, you'll still have to prove you were in the right, you'll have to pay the excess, you'll have to put up with cheap insurance repairs from the place that the insurance company tells you to use. And you'll never get the money back that you put in.

Insurance companies always win!

I concur and do the exact same thing regarding an insurance account and regular deposits. The amount I have saved is more than any insurance company would have paid out for my cars combined. Sure it only pays off further down the track, but at least I am not losing out on money based on Insurance premiums, excesses and any other repair costs. I will never insure another vehicle ever again...
