New Zealand Datsun Club

I've stuck this in general chat rather than in the cruise thread, just so as not to confuse the main thread for this cruise.

I was contacted by a chap from the (now defunct) Mackenzie car club today. He told me dsepite having become defunct, last year they ran a crooked (or bent?) gravel sprint for their 40 year anniversary. This year, they were holding an encore event. As they're no longer MANZ affiliated, it's being run for them by the south canterbury car club.
Anyway, he said there's likley to be a few datsuns there. Some just parked up on display, as well as some competing. He was surfing our forum the other day, and saw the date of the Rakaia cruise, and thought since a group of us is heading south that day, we might like to head further down, (To fairlie) to park up with the other datsuns. (and maybe have a non competing run up the road)
He said they'll be up there for most of the day, and we wouldn't be expected to to hang aound the whole time.

Only thing being it'd mean deviating from the regular formula for the Rakaia cruise. (Which is a pretty good day out in itself) And a gravel sprint wont be everyones cup of tea.

Anyways, I'm throwing it up for discussion to see how people feel.

Me personally, I'm looking forward to a BBQ and a swim. I'm not one to get my jollys watching other people enjoying their cars.

as nick says, either way, but something like this may not happen for a while to come, and it could be interesting to go watch.

so the options are.... drive further making it a longer day and watch others driving on dusty roads, or watch chris pick up lulu and dunk her in the rakia again??? im for seeing lulu getting wet again. (no offence intended )

Also ive been told that Matto datto is bringin his jetboat on the cruise and offereing rides in the river, Thats the sweetner for me. If its a hot day which it most likely will be im keen for a swim and bbq

if i had my shit together we could have two cars running in that sprint.. i reckon go to the sprint support them the south canterbury car club is a awesome clud and needs folk like us to help them out... coz maybe one day we may want to hire the track as a club event... thea shud be some pretty wicked machinery thea!!! and i think changing the cruze a bit is a good idea stops it been the same old each time (not saying it aint a good day atm)

sounds fucking mint to me !! id love a crack at runiing the 1200 up the hill and yeah be awsum to have sth canty car club on our side for future fun days ect .. i guess being in timaru and 10 15 mins from a river and hour away from a lake im more keen on watching the old guys in there classic cars .. but thats just me
