Hi all
Im after some cheap easy options to make my current engine a bit faster. Im doing about 60+ kms per day which is mainly flat motor way driving except the ngauranga gorge with a grade of 8% (according to wiki)
Im happy to remove the head but cant afford head work so Im after the best ways to make driving each day more enjoyable.
Cheer

If I found a good A15 cheap enough thats exactly what I would do. Money is tight again while I save so its making do with what I have for now.

Sadly cheap A15's requiring next to no work/money is not possible, I should know... I am in the process of re-powering my 1200 project car with an A15 which I can't wait to be complete. As silly as it sounds (and I know a lot of people forget), a simple tune up is the best and cheapest option. I don't know you or your car, so is all I could suggest for now... lol.

Tune was done which made it a little better. I was thinking lighter fliwheel and a weber 32/36 from a ford escort as they are easy to find. I have also heard A15 heads fit. but would this make it better? I need to do some thing before Im over it and sell to fund some thing else.

If your serious about selling to fund something else I would be super keen on it if/ when I sell my bmw.

a14/15 head planed to increase compression ratio, careful you don't want to be limited to 98 fuel though. extractors. SU carbs. do you have a 5 speed?
Cheapest increase is advance your timing, that will show a small gain in power, but put the engine on the detonation danger zone, but running 98 will help with this.
Not a huge increase though, and could cost with a blown piston so can be expensive long term.
Even just planing your head and extractors would make a difference.

Il avoid the timing change as the distance I travel and look into a carb swap and headers to see how it goes. Even a slight increase will be nice.

i had a mini with a 1100cc it had a dellorto and extractors. i planned the head because it had a leak through the head gasket. however i didnt really feel much of an increase though... mini's are rawkus as tho

I found the answer to making a A12 faster. Replace it  . I won an auction for a 4age and box but still have not heard from seller. Kind of annoying as there was a sr20 and box for the same price. For now I have fitted my spare A12 with an A15 carb which is better but still a little slow.
