hi i have a datsun 120y just rebuilt the carby and put it all together i started the car up and all the time at idle and on higher revs i get not fully black but greyish smoke is this because of the carby tune or is my piston rings worn it sarts up as soon ass you turn the key all the time i turned the fuel air mixture screw all in then 2 turns out as it said on the rebuild kit instructions any ideas??
also i advanced the timing from 7 deg to 10 deg is this fine if i run 98 octane fuel???

Hows does that car run?
Have you been for a good drive since you done the carbs?
Was it doing this before you rebuild the carbs?

hi i havnt driven the car much since as it dosnt have regostration but the car starts and drives fine but it has a bit of hesitation at take of and the smoke issue thats all but the cars preety smooth to drive i was told that the carby accelerator pump is bad and its causing it hesitation and the smoke but i have changed this in the rebuild any way to adjust it or something??

hey what carb is it is it single down draught sounds like you got an air leak to me

its the stock dcg 306 hitachi manual choke carby the top cover was warped so i filed it best as i could i think the gasket sealed it up!

I would definately reccomend trying another carb first before doing anything drastic

yer true that i picked one up from a datsun 120y wagone today it has slightly different jet sizes 1 smaller i think should i put the biger ones from by other carby in or leave it as it is??

Leave as is. Its a same you are in Australia as I have someone who would quite happily build you up a good carb
