Well i havent driven the black lunchbox since last may, and the september 4 earthquake was kind enough to lend it some dents courtesy of a large piece of steel which fell on its rear quarter. But amongst all this i havent forgotten about it, and have been slowly chipping away. I once again had the radiator recored (third time), hoping ive got to the bottom of that issue this time however. It needed new valve stem seals so i removed the cylinder head, and sent it way for resurface, crack test, yada yada, and the cams were sent to Kelfords who did a marvellous number on them, all the while pretty much having to sell a kidney to fund the kameari adjustable cam gears. after finally getting the head back due to the february earthquake causing somewhat of a hold up, i began cam installation, in order to set up the clearances. Two problems became suddenly apparent. One, the cams were too big, and two, i seemed to have misplaced one of the shims!

problem one = solved by die grinder!

problem two = still pending

Progress has been made! Big thanks to Chris_g1 i have shims en route. For anyone looking for shims, theyre very hard to find, Nissan dont have them anymore, and Cylinder Head Specialists suggested getting Denco to make some, which was my next port of call if i couldnt get any second hand. Just got to finish clearancing the inlet cam and then put the head on, dial in the cams, and then itll be time to visit P.A.D again!

Here it is in all its years worth of dust. Got it going again this morning. runs like a hairy dog at idle, seems to come on quite a bit later in the rev range, but due to having stale fuel in it and needing a tune, doesnt like being given any real jandle. Hoping the black rocker cover and inlet manifold will fade to a lovely mongrel matte black with a bit more heat.
