1968 G130 super six

Hi guys, Kiwi in Oz for a few years. Thought i better get something to keep me busy while i was here.

Saw a number of cool h230 and 330 dattos on here so i better add to the list

Bought this off a mate who has returned to nz

thanks for the positive comments guys.

Its pretty rare, i have only found a few in oz, and i believe there are 3 in nz. 1 somewhere near chch, one rusting in a paddock somewhere on the east coast of the north island and one in my old mans shed! It belongs to my brother in law (who i bought this car off) and runs a rb30det.
It lives next to his 38 chev tudor with toyota century v12 running gear, rb30det 240z, and my rb30det r32.
I will find some photos when i get back to town.

Im currently working in the mines so i only get a few days here and there to work on the datto

I have a few issues with the build so far. I have to convert to steering rack as the steering box hits the head. Due to the design of the suspension, i need to run a very short rack to eliminate bump steer. I have a rack that will do the job, but there is very little room between the crossmember and the bellhousing. I might have to raise the engine, which will help with exhaust clearance, but will create bonnet clearance issues.....

The motor is stock vh45 auto, with stock wiring incl cruise control. I think i will be able to squeeze a pulsar/sentra heater box and a/c under the dash and electric power steering column from a barina.

I got these wheels with it which i like, but they wont fit over the brakes i think

heres some photos of rays datto

rb30, big turbo, merc s600 front discs, turbo skyline calipers all round, turbo skyline drum/disc brakes on the rear, 17s front, 19s rear.
goes like hell

The VH is a monster piece of kit alright.

Done a bit of work on my last days off. Got all the mounts made and engine and box olted in.

The original gearbox mount bolted to the vh auto box but the rubbers were shot and i could not get a replacement.

The new mount needed a slightly thinner crossmember so i run the grinder throgh the top and one side of the crossmember and squashed it together.

A bit of welding later and the vh rubber mount bolted straight up.

The engine mounts are mitsubishi triton ute mounts. I choce them as they were the first ones i came across at the wreckers that had a flange on the base and were roughly the right size.
I made some adapters to fit the stock front crossmember and the new rubber mounts.

I have mounted the gearbox crossmember back 70mm from stock and the engine mounts are about 50mm back. This was the best place to get the sump, steering, and exhaust to fit.

Next job is to make a new tunnel. I might leave it for a while so i can fiddle with the shifter. I hope to hook the old manual clumn shift up to select the gears
