Re: Datsun making a comeback
yeah this has been brought up before on this forum... Interesting how its going to be an emerging markets brand of shitty low cost cars. Kinda devalues the name IMO.torqued wrote:http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/02/is-n ... rn-in-201/

Hate to break it to you ging but thats all datsun ever was, budget spec thrifty motoring. For the most part There "top models" were badged Nissans, there is obviously exceptions to the rule but yeah datsun was always branded to be a value for money everymans car. Fine by me, meant they were light with tough motors!gingofthesouth wrote:yeah this has been brought up before on this forum... Cant say im excited about the reemergence of datsun. Im probably not going to get barred up by a Datsun Juke or a Datsun Tiida
Re: Datsun making a comeback
To add to nicks comment.
The name datsun was primary used when nissan was breaking into the american market.
They were unsure if the yanks would take to having small production vechicles.
So rather than tarnish Nissans already good name they used datsun

Re: Datsun making a comeback
Yeah I know the above. I watched two documentaries on the history of Datsun. They were very interesting. But in the end, the Datsun Fairlady and the racing heritage it became known for does have a good name. At least in motorsport. A 1000cc wind up window $2000 dollar Datsun being sold in India would make me cringe lol

Re: Datsun making a comeback
It'd be okay if they started reproducing the old one to sell in emerging markets where emissions and saftey weren't an issue. In a shithole like africa low tech cars that go forever with zero mantainence are worth more than human life. (But life isn't worth a pinch of shit there anyway)
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
