Targa Rally Rules changing - Now a Sanctioned Series

Guys I was visiting the targa site the other day (checking out the entry list for Targa Bambina - I have pit crewed for a BMW team in the past) and noticed that have posted the new regulations going forward.

Here is a link to the pdf of the regs 2012 Schedule TA.pdf

Under these rules running a 240z/260z places you in Category 2 along with late 80's RWD cars with 2300cc engines or larger ie Turbo RWD cars, M3 E30 BMW etc. However if you repower with a L20a and do some work you can build just under 2300cc and be in category 1 with Escorts, Fiats, Corolla's, and other smaller cars most of the same vintage.

So with these new rule running a zed is disadvantage vs much later chassis. Now why did I sell my 160Jsss......

Thanks Mike, good to have you on board. It would be great to see a 'Z' out there ripping up the black top in this class. Six cyl. then, and period. Makes rules much easier to understand, but shame about age categories, 30 years would have been better for us and kept classic and modern better defined. Feel for the Toyota 1600 boys, they are great wee cars, but will be right out of class. Over 4.2 will be a small classic class, and a V8 benefit really, I guess it may promote entries in that class of vehicle.

Hmm, Nissan did make an L23 (2262cc), looks like it's L24/L26 bore with an L20 crank.

you got it :D

However the race car project I recently purchase late last year - was getting build as a targa car but with a RB30 in it....I am going to finish it as it stands due to $$....but L23 high rev'n will be interesting to see what power can be made from that.

Andy another local 240z guy will be out in his car during the bambina he will need L20a parts before me. hmm maybe I should have kept Dad's old S31 engine and installed an L28 in that before we sold it...
