Ive always worried about running that big cable down the length of my car.
Ive done it a few times and its always worked fine.
But after recently hearing my friends escort caught fire because of the cable. kinda worried.
I know you can run a remote solenoid for the starter but you still need a + for the alt.

Have people fused the cable? or run a solenoid for starter feed and fuse the alt cable?
Either way what amperage would I use for each

British pre engage solenoids would work if you keep the smoke in, there is probably something newer. Put stiff hose around cable at baulk heads to increase protection. Have you ready latest MANZ book, mount wording has changed. I take it this is for SS Skyline

Hose is a great idea. I was going to suggest betaflex.
You'd obviously be running an isolator switch. So you could mount it right down by the battery, and mount up an old choke cable (Or similar, bonet release cable perhaps?) so that you can pull the plug in seconds if you get a dead short.
A mate of mine had his batery on the floor behind the drivers seat, and an isolator (with the obligatory red key) mounted on the tunnel. He then ran on old choke cable to the approximate location of the antenna on his 1200, so that the battery could be isolated from outside the car. (In the event of a crash, or upset)
