Hello there.

I am a new member and bought myself a Datsun 200b recently.

She currently has a problem with Cold Start as i was told by the old owner, She struggles to start up in the morning. How is that fixable? is it something to do with a Auto Choke? i am not too good with Carby but have mates that can help if someone can point me to the right direction please?

Thanks

Welcome aboard,
Generally Auto chokes are controlled by a spring house in a round black appendage on the side of the carb, sorry I have no picture or any better way to describe it. If more choke is need loosen the 3(?) mounting bolts to allow the Black housing to turn and simply wind more choke on, to decrease wind the opposite direction.
To check if it is working remove air cleaner top and see if Choke butterfly is closed over one barrel of the carb. Start car and run up to temp, check it has opened fully when car is running at normal temp, say a 10-15 min drive.
Hope this helps.
Nice cars, what model? Colour? you could start a members ride thread, be great to see some pics.

These cars also had points ignition from the factory, these systems are sweet provided they are in good condition. If the points dwell is out this will effect starting particularly if the mixture is weak on cold start. At this time of the year a couple of pumps on the gas and the car should start up, even without a choke.
Check the carb after it has been sitting over night, look in the window on the front, is the fuel at the same level as it is after the car has been running?
Love the ZX trim.
Starting a thread as you go shows you what you have done and increases others interest in your progress. I started my thread once the car was finished, it's been a pretty boring thread to be fair. It also enables others to give suggestions as I have if problems persist.
Just a thought.
Great to have you on the forum, hope you get many years pleasure from your Datsun.
