Hey,

I got a 5 speed for my datsun sunny wagon and im planning on attempting to swap them out this weekend so i can get it done before the hamner cruise!,

So are there any tips for doing it, i have a pretty good mechanical mind (i think) but i wanna get this right haha, sooo can i pretty much swap the gearbox straight in and be away laughing or are there any hidden demons on this, any info is a great help!!

Cheers
Michael

Someone will be able to chime in and correct me, but pretty sure you will need to modify the gearbox x-member and the driveshaft

Gearbox xmember bolts in from where you got your 5 speed normally and some with driveshaft aslong as it fits your diffhead

Doesn't all this come down to what 5 speed you have? I thought the 60a is longer than the 56a? But please also correct me if I'm wrong!!!

I'm pretty sure you will have to make a bracket to make it fit onto the factory mounts. Not sure on the drive shaft.
I know that's what I would have to do on my 1200 coupe. Plus modify the reverse switch.
Good luck!
I might be keen to help if I can get away. Pm me your details.

This 5 speed is going into a VB310. Big difference between the 310's and the 110's. Odds on the gearbox cross member of the 4 speed will fit, Im sure if Im wrong, someone will jump up and down on my throat or back stab the hell out of me behind those closed doors....... The gearbox tunnel on the 310 will be wide enough to accommodate the reversing switch with out mods. The drive shaft will be the right length if the wagon is running a 60 series 4 speed.

Blair you are correct :D
You can use the same driveshaft in my old wagon and you ideally need a 5speed mount and xmember rather than adapting a 4speed setup.
Plus the 5speed clutch fork is critical to give you proper clutch actuation and pedal travel.

Great to be wrong! I have 2 drive shafts down south. I might be able to bring 1 back with me the night before the cruise!
I'm pretty sure it was behind a 60a 4 speed which I also have.
If you get stuck, let me know!
