I have bought a 5 speed short box to go behind an L14 in a 140j. I was hoping it would all bolt up but cant seem to get the drive shaft in the 5 speed box?? Whats going on?? Will there be anymore things I need to change? or should the rest be fine, all mounts seem to line up okay..

Which 5 speed do you have?
There are two different lengths for the L series gearboxes. The 710's need the short series gearbox. 180b's, bluebirds, and 200b's used the longer series.

Is the shroud on the input yolk fouling?
Some inputs have a different shroud to others.

Someone else had this problem not so long ago although it was on an A-series, can't remember, may have been Beaver in Wellington? I think? I am sure for them it was a build up in the splines, not sure if the box or the drive shaft was to blame. If the splines line up you may need to have a look at the splines, give them wee clean then see if you can slip it on further.
Good luck

I have a selection of different length driveshafts for sale that suit L-series gearboxs.

Did you also slam it at the same time?
Sometimes when fitting lowering blocks, the axle can move forward as it moves up. I had to reshorten my D/shaft when I fitted blocks.
