120Y speedo reading too high?

The speedo in my sister's 120y is reading 10kmh over ie 50kmh on speedo is actually 60kmh. Everything on the car is factory 12" rims with 155/80 tyres. Could the gauge be at fault or maybe speedo cable? Any help much appreciated

No, that is right, this is how they roll.
My 12ie on 13x175/70s is about right. 185s would be 100% I would think.
From factory they were optimistic.

Haha alrighty Vaughan. She sat her restricted yesterday and passed but the fella said he would've failed her if she was doing her full due to the incorrect speedo. Looks like I'll be finding her some 13's for xmas/birthday!

That's only where the numbers are, who uses them, mines in mph, so will he fail me for going too slow, fast or not having a new car. Test isn't about the car but how you drive it, I am aware of my car and drive it accordingly. Good news she has restricted tell her we expect to see the wee beast on the Dec port hills cruise.

With my old datsun ute, (the white one in my avator) my husband pulled the speedo out and the coil spring inside which controls the speedo needle, he stretched it out webit so the spring had more tension on the needle.
The faster you go the speedo cable turns the mechinism that winds up the coil so the needle goes up, more tension on spring the less needle wants to increase in speed. Less tension by compressing spring again will increase needle speed.
My old ute had a 5speed and was on 17s, so the speedo was way out.
Get a navman, adjust the spring a tiny bit and give that ago, worked for us

Speedos always read high, even in old cars. Designed to make you think you're going faster than you really are.
