so im having a bit of difficulty finding out whats different between the neo and non neo versions of the RB20DE

basically i want to know which would be the better base for a race engine. for example do they have better head design, better flowing ports and so on, what did they improve on them and also are parts as hard as people say they to get for them (im not sure if this would apply much as id be using it as a base but if i ever broke a crank would it be that hard to fond another)? and would after market parts for example solid lifters and so be the same between neo and non neo versions.

any information appreciated, Google is not being very helpful at current.

aftermarket solid lifters are available to suit rb20de(t) from tomei, and others.

from what I have read, the NEO produces more power and is more economical than it's predecessor. As for what's a better base to start from, that I wouldn't know.

yeh i would doubt nissans ability to answer what i want to know. Im not so much to worried about the solid lifters and such as i dont know tomei make them and it would be prety weird if they didnt fit the neo head, though it is a possibility they dont.

Im more interested in the port design for a N/A race engine. Im guessing the bottom end would be fairly similar but it was about the time these were released that most manafacturers started improving head design and so on.

Looks like i may just have to buy one as it seems not many people know much about them.

at the very least you get a newer fresher engine, Its safe to say they are an improvement over the older de. I'm with you just buy the newer one

i agree with nick, the newer engine would be much better, and i somehow doubt the NEO head could be worse than the not neo head
