Karls - 1978 Datsun 220c of Dieselness

Post by Karl »

So...

some of you will know I own this fine datsun automobile. How I came to own it was a rather interesting story.

It was originally for sale at an auction place in Hamilton for $2100 buy now. I didn't buy it. Turns out a backpacker from Holland purchased it for his trip around NZ. It lasted him a week before breaking down!, A reconditioned starter motor was fitted to get it going again. Nearing the end of his trip he got in touch with Scott at Cockram Nissan (brdflu) about selling the car. Scott knew I was keen on purchasing a Cedric of some description so put me in touch.

He turned up at my place the day before he was due to fly out and we struck a deal that included a bed for the night for him and a ride to the airport at 5am the next morning.

Here is the first pic I got of my latest purchase. Photo taken at the mill (booze shop) procuring some delicious beverages with bartman...

First up to be done on the car was every datsun owners favourite past time, RUST!

sills and doors were done just intime for a wof check. it ended up getting a clean sheet. Ideal!

then lowering because everyone loves a low car... to achieve this result 50mm blocks in the rear and 2 coils removed from the front. The car already had a good set of gas shocks installed all round.

This pic shows the new ride height and the rust repairs, the rust repairs were done on both sides (passenger side was worse)

bumpstops. before and after. admitidly the car did 1000+kms sitting on the unmoddified ones as we were so excited with the cars new look we forgot to check them

more later... :deadhorse:
