L26 Stroker

Hi Guys.

Looking at using a LD28 crank to stroke and bore my L26 engine anybody done this before or know what combination of rods pistons heads cams etc to use. Any info would be great.

Not many people would travel that path, start with an L28, it's tried and tested.

If I use a ld28 crank In the l26 block and the right rods I can get upto 3.1 L displacement I was just wondering if anyone has done this. I'm sure it's not an uncommon thing. If soo what rods were used.

Sorry but no you can't, rod length has nothing to do with displacement. You would need to bore the block 6mm which isn't possible.

No but it does have something do.with deck height and compression.

3mm overbore can be done. 89mm bore 83mm stroke from the diesel LD28 crankshaft

L26s have an 83mm bore, a 3mm over bore would only get you to 86mm which is what L28s are standard. If you want an 89mm bore you will need a 3mm over bore on an L28 block.

Why not leave your L26 alone and grab yourself a L28 and use that as a starting point? The old saying "there is no replacement for displacement" is a good one!

I dont doubt that he does. Im just wondering if it had been done. The L26 needs an overhaul anyway i could still get 2.9L using the LD28 crank.

I'm not trying to be a dick but you would be better off spending the money buying an L28 and getting head work and a cam done on that. You will gain very little with a small displacement increase without doing other work.

My old 3133cc motor was done on the cheap and boring the block, buying new pistons, two sets of bearings (long story) and the other bits and pieces was around the $1000 mark, and that's not even including buying an LD crank or touching the head or buying an expensive head gasket that is difficult to find.

A grand would go a reasonable way on a cam and head work on an L28.
