I have one Bede.
It's not actually a dust cover, it's a sandwhich plate that goes behind the flywheel, and also hangs down to the lower half of the bellhousing.
They also act as a locating device for the startermotor. Your starter will sound like shit without one.

are there two different kinds?

I had a car once that had a rangi'd up dust cover, but all the non bastardised datty's I've had have had the full plate between the block and the flywheel.

early a12s in 1200 sedans/coupes/wagons have the half plate/dust cover, however my 1200 ute had one as well...

so do i want the full cover (that goes between the block and bellhousing) or the half round one as in running the late a12 (120y)?
does it matter which i use?

probably not?
I think I have a full plate you can have for free mate.
Brendan says that the thicker-ness of the full plate may have an impact on your clutch geometry, but I've always run the full plate on all my cars.
