You speak good sense, although because old cars are viewed as collector items and not used much they charge less for rego.
A mate told you could pay reg for one month and then another 11 months at the cheaper rate now, but I haven't tried it.

yes you can, I just put 1 and a half months on the van, 2 weeks ago. pretty decent of ltsa to allow this and make it public knowledge, not often the government give us a chance to save money, although I guess it will save a lot of headaches if people were to go and demand a refund later when the rates come down.

My 1600 cost exactly $71.65 to register for a year using the new rates effective from July. That was doing it on-line which is a bit cheaper.

Registered my car today for 16 days, had to go to shop to do it.
Will now be able to relicence online at the new rate.

Yes they do. NZTA website has been worked over to make it quicker paying online and new style notices as well.
