cheaper to revin now - especially with new rego costs - then its done "properly"

Not when you also figure in a repair cert. And if a car has already been painted, then it can be a real can of worms.
I'd say $4-500 for a "desirable" car. And less for a car that was less so.
I'm not sure what the laws are regarding "reshelling" cars I know a lot of rally cars get reshelled due to the harsh nature of the sport.

I spose..

Revin check (may pass) - $180
Rust Cert $200-300
Rust repairs if needed - endless amounts of $$$$
Rego - $79 (i think) for a year now if pre 1975

Re-shelled rally cars are usually just that - everything from the rolled bowled and a**h**led car are swapped over to a new car, plates and tags etc remain and the car has new paperwork etc done for the roll cage, cert etc (quite costly) - effectively building a new rally car.

Some are cut back so far that pretty much its just the firewall left and the new car becomes the old car during the rebuild process - hopefully this makes sense.

Anyway a little off topic, back to finding a completely rusted out on hold 1200 shell that's sitting around somewhere for this guy.

Yeah I agree my flat mate went down that road new panel n paint and went for re vin ,they went hunting to find some rust found a spot under the dash he had to get repair cert for a tiny spot that he him self was able to fix and my mate who payed $500 for plates he had to have black plates
