Wiring An Electric Fan

Just finished front mounting a new 10" Davis Craig electric fan.
The kit came with a relay- is this necessary given that I am just wiring in a basic on/ off switch?
Also where would be the best place to grab a + wire to go through to the switch?
Cheers
Dave

Standard switches aren't designed to run the switching current of fans or headlights etc hence the need for relays.
You've got the relay so wire it in.

I trigger my fans from the Ignition on circuit , i borrowed a a signal wire from the ignition coil to get a +12v signal for the relay.

I would recommend fitting a thermo switch to your radiator. Fit a relay, run 12v + to the trigger side from the coil, and run the - side of the relay trigger off the thermo switch.

Thanks Guys.
Bart, I will in due course fit a thermo switch but in the meantime bearing in mind that we are talking about a race car I want to just run an on/off switch so I can manually control the fan.
With a switch in the dashboard where would be the easiest place to tap into to get a power feed- ignition switch?
Cheers
Dave
