What oil in oil filled shocks?

I'm going to change the oil in my front shocks.
What is the best oil to use?
I don't want it to ride like it has house bricks cable tied in where the springs should go. So heavy ass oil is probably out.....
(I did once have a car that had a house brick cable tied in where a missing spring should have been..)

Motor bike fork oil works ok. About 15 grade from memory. Hydraulic oil can be used too. Perhaps talk to John - Broke.

Pretty sure we were using hydraulic 46 weight oil in all those sunnys - you need something thats anti foaming etc - i think atf would expand alot with heat maybe?

Dad used Jack oil aswell - cant remember the weight but they all worked

Im with nzdatman, ATF works fine with no noticeable issues, provides good damping, not soft and not hard.
