Relocation of alternator to l/h of A15

midway point of an A15 transplant into the 1200 Coupe and looking to relocate the alternator to the left hand side of the engine (r/h looking at it from front : )

using the mount from the 1200 motor and it looks like I have a few options as it's not as straight forward as I thought.

the 1200 mount needs to be slotted to account for the bolt spacing on the block
also the alternator will hit the longer water pipe
also, the hole for the alternator upper mounting bracket is some weird size/ thread

Looks like I'm going to slot the mount a little and cut the water pipe back to the length of the 1200 one. Not exactly ideal, but could do the trick.

keen to hear on others' experiences on this one...

anyone know the deal on the bolt size/ pitch for the head bolt?

The only one I've ever seen done had a custom made bracket.

But I'd have to ask why?
If you strip back the wiring loom, the wires to the alternator come from the driver's side of the engine back anyway. It's nothing to run them to the new location, and tape the loom back up again.

I did this 30 yrs ago and it wasn't that difficult from memory.
I'll try to get pictures up.

Agree with Bart, the common approach is to modify the loom

Yup, looking like the loom mods are the way to go.

Dicked around with slotting the original mount, but in end, just too close to the water pipe for my liking and the adjustment bar was too short.

A bit of dicing and splicing plus abit of extra cable to reach back to what looks like an external regulator and it should be gravy.

Just looked and re read the question....
I left the alternator in the original position (not the distributor) side...

No, that's what I'm after... Keen to hear how you managed to mount it on the right...

bit the bullet after realising that I could sort it with some more perserverance - and deciding I wanted to keep the wiring original after all.

ended up fine tuning the slots in the lower bracket
cut about 50mm off the upper water pipe (will keep the original factory t-junction in lower pipe for heater)
mashing up a spare air filter housing brakcet to extend the upper adjustment bracket
finally, fitted a 50mm longer than standard (1972 a12) v belt.

sorted.
alignment might need fine tuning once running, but looks good for now.
