It ended up at 216.3whp measured on the USA SAE method. Power fell off over 7,300rpm & I think the std intake was a big reason for that, especially as it was spaced out by phenolic spacers. I'm pretty sure we had the headers & exhaust sorted enough to take that out of the equation.
I was just about to get a custom intake made up, had sent a std intake to the gent in Australia & had purchased a N1 throttle body 'n all but then I decided it was time to call it quits. The car is now running an Avenir SR20DET and it cost about as much to do as getting the intake made + is quiet & streetable.
I've sold the engine to a guy who is going to put it in a RWD old school Datsun 1600 track car which should go pretty hard.
For the person who asked about cost... if Kelford hadn't sponsored me it would have been about $2,100USD for the headwork not including uprated springs. It was the first VE head they had really had a chance to play with though so it may be a lot less now that they've done all the initial flowing & measuring.

what is the USA SAE method? 216hp sounds impressive though. Is the DE head much different to the VE? I know VE ports are bigger, they look almost too big esp for a 1600

USA SAE is altered for temperature and altitude. I can't remember what is it is exactly but I think SAE standard is 20deg Celcius and sealevel. It will be listed somewhere on the net.
Ve ports are quite a bit bigger than DE ports and yeah your right they are definitely a bit big for a 1600
I believe Kelford has got good results by making the VE ports smaller on the 20ve's because the velocity increase

there is a 1200 sedan race car in timaru with a sr20de.i was working with the man getting engineering experience last christmas.he has been a machinist all his life and he told me he had 280HP and the wheels.
he completely machined his whole ITB's from scratch and did his own cams at work.he has developed the motor himself and according to dad "he is a very very bright man"
i have no specs on the engine but that is what he told me.

I think i'd probably need a cigerette after seeing that motor in action.
It takes alot of money to get a 2L non turbo motor to that level of horsepower regardless of what it is!

a mate of mine had his rally car up in timaru on a dyno and that 1200 was there it was making gud hp, i cant remember how much he sed, it wasnt that much tho, 180-190 at the tyres rings a bell will check tho.
