A bunch of us here in Datsun central are pooling some unwanted spares, and building a trailer from the rear half of A 1600.
It's going to have a BBQ inside the boot, a back seat fitted, and an umbrella stand to keep the sun off the seat, and the man (Or women!) on the tongs.
It's also going to be painted up in the colour scheme as the mighty #46 BRE 510. It wont happen overnight, but I have high hopes for it being finished by the time of the summer rakaia cruise.
The lpg cylinder will likely be mounted in the drawbar, to keep it balanced. All the inferior car clubs will be soo jelous!

Dont forget to put something where the rear window was so people sitting in the back seat dont get hot fat down the back of their neck when the BBQ is being used

The bbq lid will sit at the back of the grill, and the boot lid will do the rest. It's going to have the remains of the roof cut off through the C pillars, just above the vents.
The parts rundown,
Greg is kindly donating the rear subframe, and rear arms as well as the rear coils.
Adam has donated the shell, boot lid, tail lights C pillar vents.
I have some RHS for the drawbar.
We need:
a rear bumper, There's a rusty on on trademe right now.
A boot catch
One of the tail light bulb holders. (we have one, and the loom that will run down the the trailer plug.)
A rear seat. I know where one is, but we'll look at anything.
Rear shocks in ANY cond. (wee need some to keep the rear coils captive)
I've been thinking maybe we shave the boot lock, and have a release cable hidden inside the fuel flap. But This thread is all about floating ideas. So let rip

if we're gonna mount an umbrella to give the people in the seat some shade, would it not pay to leave the roof on or is it getting the chop to reduce drag behind the tow car whilst moving.
just a thaught

It's getting the chop to cut down on drag etc. It would flap around dangerously at 90khp if it was left on.
As sacked out as is practical It still needs to be able to get down to the riverbed on the rakaia cruise , and out to the Waimak now and again.
