HI all, well I am Aaron from Trinidad and Tobago and I have come across this nice little Datsun 1200 Sedan fitted with a Nissan CA18DET engine, 280c diff (i was told - looks like a 720 to me), disc brakes all round, stock suspension bits and some chocolate paint
here are some photos.
i luckily have loads of experience with CA's having built a forged engine bored to 1.9 running haltech w 660's and tomei cams and valvetrain etc making close to 400whp, but i have no plans of going that route with this small datto
I am hoping to just to replace the turbo with a GT28R and replace the turbo manifold/downpipe, put some coilovers on it and upgrade the brakes, then paint her and put some nice seats in her. and of course some 15x8 wheels..
let me know what you think, I have only paid down a deposit on teh car so far, but hope to collect her and bring her home in the next week or two.

Re: Hello all - New Member, New Ride - Datsun 1200 with CA18DET
thanks guys, from what the guy told me and what i have read, the grill and lights are the from the Datsun B122 Sunny Truck from south africa (not sure about if it was a JDM peice)
the old owner was very proud that it was a different grill etc..
even though it has a 1/3 of the power of my old Silvia, the light little 1200 sure hussles down the rd with the CA18
I am hoping i may eb able to squeeze some 15x7 front and 15x8 rear wheels on there with the right offset and maybe a little fender flaring/rolling
i really need to get this thing home and up on some jack stands to really see what rear end is in there and what can fit
right now it has 15x6 wheels.. no rubbing or clearance issues..
thanks
more on the weekend!!

pretty sure there is no way you will ever fit anything x 8s on a 1200 sedan as standard. You can definately not lower them in the rear as much as the coupes due to the wheel arch shape. Even most x 7s need guard mods.
Nice car though!

Re: Hello all - New Member, New Ride - Datsun 1200 with CA18DET
if you are going to fit eights you would have to cut the part of the wheel arch where the door meets out to where your door is and then remake the doors etc to fit - my 15x7 rubbed over bumps or hard out when 3 or more ppl in the car with no lowering and 5mm spacers to clear the leaves.
they are
15x7 with 38mm positive offset.
be carefull with the offset as different rims will have bigger edge "lips" etc so actually sit in or out more.
I say find wheels you like and make them fit - or as the south island boys say "cut your way in and weld your way out"

thanks for all teh advice guys,LUFDAT wrote:... "cut your way in and weld your way out"
I was thinking/realizing i may have to cut the rears, was looking at tubbing out the rear a bit, but realized that means moving the strut uprights
I will see how the fender rolling/cutting goes if needed. This car is not cut anywhere really so i dont want to butcher it at all
was thinking of maybe 240z/510/AE86 carbon fender flares to for the fenders
again, thanks for all the advice, been up all night reading thtought the tech and projects, loving this all
take care
