Re: Datsun club BRE 510 BBQ trailer!!!!!!
Righto guys - the north are here and we are planning on getting the work done on this BBQ trailer so it can be ready for use on the Akaroa Cruise 2010.
It all started with a hiss and a roar so lets keep the momentum up.
Mark and Yvette , thank you for storing it and thanks to everyone that has been giving is some loving since the club first acquired it.
We have been asked to store the trailer as apparently Mark will either die or have very sore balls if it is still at thier place when vetty gets back .
As some of you know we have to much space to give to any datsuns so we agreed.
Iive been doing some research on these trailers and i must say that with the roof - they all look pretty dumb and they look to "cut blunt" to put it that way.
Here is a few examples - i know the cars arnt dattos but you get the picture......
then some will say well put the front on too.... - but that wont work for us because of the seat....
all the trailers ive seen in person have had the roof hacked off and all the one that look crazy cool are all without them aswell.
Here are a few examples.....
And my final exhibit is from an aussie holden car club and this thing looks the ducks nuts....
the way its put together is way cool and if its going to be a Club Trailer then we dont want it to be half assed either.
what are your guys thoughts on this holden one as i think it works really well and all you'd need is a hole in the parcel tray for the umbrella to go up when its hot or even if it starts raining.
discuss......

Re: Datsun club BRE 510 BBQ trailer!!!!!!
That was exactly wat I was thinking! (Just like Danny's morry trailer)
I beleive breandan has a pair of rear doors we can use?
I spoke to Wal about doing some of the more difficult rear gaurd rust repairs, And I indicated to him that since he's in the business of making a living, that the club could pay him to repair the technical stuff for us. He said that he could never accept money to do work on it, when everyone else is/has done what they can free. But he did say that at some point in the future a day could be set aside where it could be taken to his shop for a working bee. From the very outset, he said that he would perhaps need some reinbursement for any materials that were consumed during the work. (IE sheetmetal gas, primer, filler ect) Now I'm sure that no one has any objections to club funds being used for this.
But the roof still seems to be a sticking point. I dearly love the idea of an umbrella stand in the parcel tray. And I genuinely feel that by dispensing with the roof, a whole raft of major headaches, and obstsicales will be eliminated. And this will just leave us with the rust issues, and minor bodywork to contend with. Thus making the BBQ trailer a reality for akaroa 2010, rather than Akaroa 2110.
I may start a thread where the clubs financial members can have their say.

Re: Datsun club BRE 510 BBQ trailer!!!!!!
yeah......I suppose after seeing all of those pics, I'm starting to think maybe get rid of the roof too.....but not 100% convinced.
most of the pics up there look gay with roofs cause they're all hatch backs....no sedan styling
although that green thing does look awesome....I quite like that audi? wagon trailer too.....looks sweet
I dont think anyone would have a problem with club funds being spent on the trailer, thats what its for!

If done correctly, accentuating the body, wheels and trims will negate the need for a roof to tie-in the package.
I reckon be a real roofless bastard and chop it off.

I have a couple of chris,s cut off wheels left, maybe ill just take the roof off and be done with it,whats the worst that can happen,
oh and ill bet marks balls are already blue, and will be empty and blue when vety gets back , so whether the trailer is there or not he will have blue balls when vets gets back.

Get rid of the roof. Then it will be a sweet tidy streamlined trailer. It is a trailer not half a car. It needs to be low with some camber too haha.
Re: Datsun club BRE 510 BBQ trailer!!!!!!
i think the same. take the roof off. keep rear seats. add clips so you can attach a tonneau cover. cut a hole in the parcel shelf so you can add a umbrella when stationary
"It's ok, we know what to do...we talked about this a lot on the internet."

I don't think it'll be especially hard to have a tonneau cover made to completely cover the rear seat/parcel tray for trasnsporting/storage purposes.
I say lets not get too clever, and just get the damn thing built! A project that is up and running, wil give 10,000 times more enjoyment than an unfinished projest that get passed around from house to house until the end of time.
