Pauls 510 FJ20et project
Re: Pauls 510 FJ20et project
PROTIP: Radiators are meant for coolant. they should not connect up to the intake

lol....what i mean is the radiator takes up the space for the intake pipe...
and i cant even get a silicon elbow onto the throttle body to get it front mounted..

Re: Pauls 510 FJ20et project
will take some pics of the way its been mounted and also the intake pipe and radiator so you can understand what i mean....
but in other news:
after a big rethink of this project and what i want at the end of it i have FINALLY (yes final decision) made a decision to pull the FJ out and drop in a carbied engine.
the FJ will pop out tomorrow.
i have allready found a l18 out of a 720, its complete from fan to clutch, and comes with a radiator.
a good move i think cos i want to get this on the rd asap..
future plans:
shorter front struts ( i think r31) with coilover kit (already have these)
lower the back (unsure of this yet, maybe just kings?)
get the bonnet and boot lid repainted and some touch ups in the factory colour
have the lower apron replaced as some muppet chopped it up for a fmic
new carpet
obviously a re-vin/cert
maybe just maybe twin carb the l18 but thatll be way down the track

Re: Pauls 510 FJ20et project
before you fit the engine for good, I'd strongly advise you to remove (with a grinder) any and all Marking from the block which say L18. Some of the revin people can be anal as hell about stuff like that. You dont want to get stung for the cost of cert for an L18, as well as the revin charges. Most people wouldnt know the difference at a glance anyways.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

good on you mate for building the car you want. At least this way you'll get it finished and driving, a lot of involved projects never get finished (although fj is a beast of an engine!!!)

Re: Pauls 510 FJ20et project
cheers mate...
if i get an urge to go turbo later i can always turn to a ca or sr...
but twin carbs, lumpy cam and high revs sound better
and i just realised that i will have no use for the boost and AFR gauges...

nosebleed,
I could be very keen to buy the boost gauge, if you can pm me details and a pic of it.
Also,
L18s are the same block height as an L16, its the L20b thats taller.
