HI!! I´m Jose and im new on this forums thing i recently bought a 5spd gearbox with this letters on it ZL71B #5, I thought that could fit on a J-18 datsun engine so the problem is that the ´bell housing´ is a little bit different, i have the plate that fits on the back of the engine it fits but i need to rotate the gearbox to the right side to make it works.
beause of that the shifter its out of center, is this dangerous?
i dont know if i made a bad buy i think this gear box was form a truck, what do you recommend? i need to buy a different gearbox? this gearbox is good for my engine??
i have a 1968 410 datsun blue bird with and J-18 engine
if you need more pictures just ask!! thank you guys!!

Re: problems with ZL71B gearbox!!!
I'm not sure what the J series engines are like.
But I used to run a Z-series gearbox on my L-series engine.
they lean the opposite way, just like it sounds like you are describing.
I ran it like that for a couple of years with no problems....it just means the gear stick sits on an angle.

OK that would be a possibility install it in that way, but i dont know i have doubts because the gearbox doesnt sit well over the transmission mounts it would have an angle, im thinking about changing the bell housing of the transmission that could be a solution too, is there any problem if i open the front part of the transmission? any recommendations?
another question how much final speed i would have with this 5 speed transmission?
they are reliable? thank you!

The 71 series gearbox is plenty strong enough for a J series motor. The J's aren't really very commen here.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
