LSD and is required sooner than I thought, clutch might need to be uprated also.

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx Camber Mod - looking quite flash now
ooh yeah ! adjustable camber here we come !
Genuine Cusco S13 plates for $120, even if I have to make a new top plate it is still cheaper than buying a $250 universal kit which needs cut down & still cheaper than buying a brand new chin ease set for $200
they do however need new bearings but chances are my front Koni's are a different OD so it simply means I can spec up a better bearing size and hopefully not require any horrible spacers or shims !
One of the studs needs re positioned OR my strut tower needs a hole slotted,
I am unsure as to which option I will choose.
have any of you guys had any CERT issues with new holes being drilled in the strut tower ? I could just weld the old hole in and drill the new hole and it would look exactly factory and line up perfectly
anywhere here is the pic

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx -S13 Camber Plates !
Further Investigation shows the bearing design on these camber plates is a bit average, just a ball sitting in a groove.
As my plates are second hand the bearings were slogged out and looking sad, so I will have the bearing section put in the 3 jaw lathe and bored out to accept one of these, stronger bearings, sealed design ( not open like the original ) and these have a special groove for the grease to sit in so it is always lubricated.
http://aurora.thomasnet.com/item/produc ... etid=a2151" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The other side of the rear camber mod is going well, just replicating all the bits I have already done Polyurethane sub frame bushings have been ordered and sub frame should be welded sometime in the next 2 weeks.
Feels good to be doing the fun mods, next I think is the LSD and a 3.9 ratio diff ( currently 3.7 ) so that will give me a bit more acceleration and only bring the RPM at 100kmh from 2100rpm to 2500rpm ( not a big deal considering the rev limit will be raised to 7000rpm when I switch to synthetic oil )

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx -S13 Camber Plates !
Is that camber plate fitted on the correct angle in the last photo?
In the photo it looks to be angled, so any camber adjustment will also affect the castor.

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx -S13 Camber Plates !
In that photo it does look to be on an ever so slight angle, IF I had taken a picture of both strut towers and draw a line across it the difference would be very minor. A any increase in castor on a z31 helps quite a lot as it give more camber on turn in without having to run huge amounts of static camber. ( this was definitely the case on my E30 which was one the best handling cars i have driven )
In saying that every change counts but the Castor arms can be shimmed up or down to increase or remove caster as required so this should be alright.
Also a fair few of the USA Z31 boys run the S13 camber plates and they seem to work well.
I have considered drilling 3 new holes & rotating it around even more so that I can get Max Castor & camber correction also but this won't happen until i switch to 2.5 ID coil over springs.

Re: James 85 Z31 300zx -S13 Camber Plates !
Rang Wilson Brothers Bro's and the upgrade bearings i need are $28.65 + GST each
Which is pretty good considering how much better they are than what Cusco specc'd for their camber plates
In other suspension news I am hopefully going to seal the deal on some of these, to give me full damper adjustment front and & rear !
I already have a set of Koni Yellows in the front, and I am to belive that Koni Red's have slightly less aggressive damping than yellows but as they require custom valving for when I eventually change to coil over/platform springs its a non issue

James 85 Z31 300zx -Uh Oh Racing Slicks
My good friend in the UK has given me a set of Michelin S46 Full racing slicks. This is the car they came off
Lexus v8 E30 280hp at the wheels , 16x9's whiteline swaybars , eibach springs Koni Yellows and Ground control camber plates on the front.
it is the quickest car I have been in that cost less than $100,000 I have personally seenthis deal to TVR's M3's Evo's and GTR's at ruapuna. I have also done a lot of the suspension work on this car. this was around the same time I owned and E30. as it shares the Nissan IRS design I am transferrign a lot of my knowlage to my Nissan Z
Don't quite know how Im going to use these yet but they appear to have had very little use.
In other news Suspension arms / subframe is on the floor of the workshop waiting for the rebuild treatment.
I'm Still making up my mind on Diff ratio's for an LSD,
VLSD diff head ( will be getting the shimmyd up treatment )
Oh the Exhaust now has a flexi bellows and is about to get a removeable flange to make it less of a nightmare to remove and refit.
Also I am going to attempt a DIY removal of the training arm bushes useing a hole saw , A die grinder and a hacksaw + some punches.
As you can see the diff is also looking a bit sad & leaky so that was part of the reason I'm going to throw some new seals at it & i have some mint bearings off a low KMS diff I pulled apart to put on the center section.
I just need to find a way of removing the bearings without damageing them ( i think my gear puller set will be allright but I will have to see how it goes )
And you can see the custom CV axle I build some time ago anticipating this swap, I still need to do the other side.
I figured IF I am going to replace the CV boots I may as well do it once on the LSD axles.
