Haha yes. I am considering the most evil thing that could ever happen to a datsun, a 13b bridgeport setup. If you can step aside from the usual hate people have for it, I'd really appreciate some advice thanks!

1. Are there any threads or tutorials you know of that document what needs to be done to meet NZ cert requirements? Done a search but failed miserably.

2. I see both maddat and datsport sell front brake upgrades, is that all you need done? Do people just swap the original fronts to the rear or something? Which company sells the better brake kit :D

4. Does anyone have any of the aforementioned bits for sale, just to make things affordable for me :)

as far as whats required for cert, best bet would be to go to a local cert guy, and let him know what and how you wanna go about doing things. that way he can tell you whats needed and whats not. will also be better than doing something, then finding out it needs to be redone come cert time.

as for brake upgrades etc, i havent had any experience with either madat or datsport kits, but from what ive heard they are really good. you could go for either of those kits, or just poke around the web and see what other people have done. there may be a cheaper bolt on option out there, will just require a bit of research

My 510 had the beginnings of a rotary conversion done to it by the previous owner. They butchered the tunnel to make room for the larger gearbox. (Some rotory gearboxes are quite tall and beefy)
The aftermarket fitting kits are perfectly adequate. TBH, I wouldn't bother with their handling/braking packages, as they aren't cheap, and you could easily acheive the same or better results by just copying what others have already done using parts sourced locally. (seriously, the interweb must contain hundereds of thousands of threads about making the mighty and venerable 510's handle and stop) I'm quite sure there must be a dozen guys on this site alone who can offer you better advise than buying a kit from ozzie.

As for cert regs, their is a technical manual written by the LVVTA about modding/scratch building cars. However it's the size of a phone book, and costs over $200. For a "small" undertaking like a repower and brake/suspention upgrade it don't feel it's really warranted. Best to track down your local LVVT certifier, and go have a chat. many of them are quite helpful.

Awesome! Thanks heaps guys, love how you lot share your wealth of knowledge without any bias, big respect.

The maddat fitting kit seems like a go then, I'll definitely take your word and do some research on a good brake setup. Shannon gave me some stuff early last year for free when he was doing his clearout, I'll see if any of that could be put to use! Think there were some skyline discs etc, I'll try put up a pic :)

Like Bart said, you probably need to modify the tunnel to accomodate the gearbox. Not necessarily because the gearbox is bigger, but because the eccentric shaft in a rotary is generally higher up in relation to the sump than the crankshaft in a piston engine, meaning your gearbox sits higher.
Technically speaking you don't need to upgrade the brakes due to the rotary conversion, as you're not increasing the weight of the vehicle. But it's probably a good idea anyway, especially if the fastory ones are rubbish.

if the guy who brought my spare 4.625:1 R200 doesn't ever come and pick it up that could go well towards giving you some torque.
