Yea a little bit of progress, Ive been putting a bit more attention into our daily cars. Buying them cheap and tidying them up etc.
And saving for the paint job, Have a bout 80% of the cash sitting in the safe now. All come from selling parts etc.

I have done all the rust from the screen (including the screen) forwards. The next plan is to do the rust from the rear screen back. That will be 90% of the rust completed. Will finish off a little patch of filler i need to do in the engine bay tomorrow.

Then i want to spray the engine bay and boot area as well as inside the car
That way i can rebuild motor and install it fit dash fuel tank etc and get it up and running then the rest can be done. The reason im choosing this option is because

A: I have very very little room in my tiny shed so if i can put part of the car back together it will take up less room that way and give me more room to work.

B: Less chance of me damaging the outer panels of the car when fitting engine dash etc.

I'll try take some photos of what ive done. it doesn't look that pretty though as its just patches of etch primer everywhere.

Hopefully over the next couple of months a lot more will happen and i'll be able to do a better update.

Yes, good to learn progress is moving forward. Good plan to spray the inside and engine bay. Then after installing the engine and dash/electrical looms and gas tannk, you will have a lot of spare space after the bulky items are back in place.

BTW, if you were to find any bumper brackets for the 140J, please let me know. My Datsun 710 is in fact a US market version 140J ( live axle rear suspension) with an L18 powerplant.

The bumpers are same as yours, but with ugly long brackets that place the bumpers way out from the car. A set of 140J bumper brackets would let me place the bumpers the way they were suposed to be ;)

Cheers.

Yip hopefully in the next month its going to get a big bump forwards in the paneling stage.
I just can't wait to start fitting my parts etc. I have found quite a few rare (other county spec) parts plus some NOS parts. Like Tail lights etc. Also fitting the 100w semi sealed head lights etc.

Well i got quite a bit more done over the last couple of days.
My broinlaw and sister are moving to Aus on the 19th so he came round and gave me quite a few hours work on the panel work etc to save me alot of money by not having to pay a panel beater to do it.

Im now at the point where i will start to reassemble the dash fuel system engine wiring etc. I'll send each door/guards one at a time to a panel beater to get the rust in the bottom fixed as im doing that. By then with a seat in it i hope it to be drivable and ready for the final straighten before paint then rust treating then finally back together ready for its first WOF in 12 years. (prob just in time for 1/2price rego :D

Hope you like the colour its custom mixed to what i wanted very close to original but with more life to it.

Shell is all completely rust free now with all patches in (just the rear screen to grind rest has been done).

I'll finish round the rear screen myself im not a panel beaters arsehole but the hard parts been done just grinding really. Shame i didn't have time to do it before we painted the boot but thats how it is, will mask it all up really well so sparks don't hurt my new paint.

The photos make it look like the paint colour is very uneven its not i just suck at taken photos and some where with the flash some with out. Plus there's alot of dust all over it.
