Colgate sounds all good. The road from the turn after the gorge to Hororata is prety sweet, so it'd be a shame to miss that just cos the pub there is toast. (Damn shame that too!)

Do you normally turn off just before Windwhistle to get to Hororata? (Downs rd)

The drive from Windwhistle to Glentunnel is pretty sweet and Glentunnel is on the same road as Coalgate pub anyway.

I dunno the name of the road we take. It's the reverse of the way I go to mount hutt when I go snowboarding. Heading away from the gorge theres a bend to the left where the timberyard is, and then hang a right shortly past there. There used be be a really beaten up old 120Y sedan in the paddock on that corner, with a sign on the roof advertising a skifeild. (I don't recall which mountain it was a good few years back now)
From that right turn there is sweet fack all traffic, and it's all a little bit downhill. (At least it seems that way on account of the way everyones speed seems to creep up along there. ;)

Yip that is the downs road, and yes it is a good fast strech :)

It you carry on straight and go through Whindwhistle and then through Glentunnel, I quite like that road because its got alot of twist and turns which is always abit of fun.Plus you'll go past my house Depends if you like straight lines or corners I guess :?

If you like twists and turns, make sure you come along for the queens birthday, and Akaroa cruise. For me the charm of this cruise is the straight lines. Where do you reckon you'll meet up with the bunch? I can txt you to let you where we're up to.
