Cheers for the offers guys.

I've just bought another complete Z18ET Engine, gearbox, loom, ECU package of TradeMe, so soon I should have a spare of everything to diagnose this problem hopefully!

Probably not at this stage. Hopefully it's just a matter of swapping this other one in. Time will tell I guess.

Alright. Chucked another Z18ET ECU into the sedan last night and drove to work today. So far so good!

Fingers crossed that this solves the problem and i now have a reliable car again. I would be stoked. ;)

Also I now have a spare Z18ET, gearbox, etc to play around with/use as spares if mine ever break 8-)

I now have a working heater in this for the first time in aaaaaaages (we almost froze driving through snow down the desert road to come to Akaroa last year). It has made driving to work in the morning much safer since I can actually see out of the windscreen now. Win! 8-)
