Which turbo is that?
Do you plan to fit adjustable cam gears? Looking good though!!!

Re: DJZ's 280ZX
It's a GT4088R, probably a bit on the large side but we'll see.
I've thought about adjustable cam gears, most of the cheap ones on Trademe look really gay/crap. I might save up for some Jun ones as they look pretty basic & cool, not that I'm going to be running a clear cover anyway but I'll know they're there.

Loving it. Is this going to be an external waste gate, and turbo? Are we going to be able to see the turbine eating small children as you come toward us on the road?

Got the motor sitting in the bay tonight.
Not much clearance here.
Not much clearance here either.
Too much clearance here.
Clearance here for the wastegate looks okay.

Re: DJZ's 280ZX
Are you going to come up with some sort of bracing for the turbo ?
Looks like a lot of weight up high, especially when that thing gets red hot under boost shes going to move around a wee bit.
Otherwise looking absolutely bad ass, makes me want to work on my 300zx again.

Snug Daniel, looks to be sitting at a good height, I had thought the Turbo looked heaps higher. Solid engine mounts?

Re: DJZ's 280ZX
Yeah, like the L6's the motor is on quite a lean which is a bit deceptive when it's sitting on the engine stand, but if you look at the picture of the sump you can see the angle of the front of the sump compared to the crossmember.
Maybe some type of Nolathane engine mount would be a good idea, the turbo is just too close to the strut tower at the moment. I really need to get some lower engine mounts and see what it looks like, I can fit my whole hand in betweem the sump and cross member currently.
I will brace the manifold, I have some 10mm stainless rod around somewhere that I was planning on using, the turbo itself is about 13Kgs I think.

Bit of a bro-cure, but can you slot the holes in your engine mount brackets to get the engine to sit a bit lower?

Re: DJZ's 280ZX
I purchased a 300mm Length of Polyurethane Round Stock From Mulford Engineering Plastics in Christchurch.
I got 90A Duro Automotive grade Red and have used it for engine mounts on my Z, works a treat, looks the business and of course you can cut to any length you please.
Mine are Through bolted, and I don't get much vibration at all, being from a v6 a nice balanced smooth l6 would be even less.
Was about $85 for the 300mm length, worked out quite cheap compared to buying engine mounts elsewhere.
