So the guys at VTNZ reckon my brake booster is too rusty and I need to Remedy the situation.
I would very much appreciate one in warrantable condition, or is there somewhere I can go or something I can do that can help de-rust my existing one?

You could just remove it from the car, sand the outside of it back and respray it.
Edit: I'm assuming that the rustiness isn't affecting the operation and it just looks rusty and average. Obviously if the booster is poked for whatever reason then this won't fix it

I agree. You should be able to remove it from the car without having to bleed down the hydraulics either.
Although if there is a rusty trail runing down from the rear of the brake master cylinder, chances are your MC could be leaking.
Also a booster from a 180b will interchange with a 120y.

Hey Alex
I seen yours and VTNZ would assume its leaking. Im heading to a place that rebuilds them tomorrow so will enquire for you while Im there. I would say thats the best option unless you find a decent bolt in option or decide to clean and paint it.

If anything is leaking causing rust I'd think it would be the M/C like Bart said. I bought a brand new one for my 180B through Repco and I'd recommend buying a new one if it is leaking (unless rebuilding is way cheaper).
If there doesn't appear to be a leak anywhere, then removing the booster should be quite easy and sanding and repainting wouldn't take much time at all and would cost almost nothing (unless you already have paint and sandpaper and then it would actually cost nothing).

Re: Wanted: 120Y Brake Booster in decent shape
Cheers guys, Ill have a decent poke around see if it could be leaking etc and see what Repco has.
It does just look rusty, as far as I can tell it works fine and they haven't failed me on brakes themselves so I assume they're Ok.
VTNZ has pretty much raped me and pulled up a whole bunch of things to fix that wasnt mentioned at the last warrant, they've even pointed out one of my balljoints has one incorrect nut

VTNZ have a fail quota. So unless you like spending money, (Or are trying to get a green/red sticker off) avoid them like the plauge.

Re: Wanted: 120Y Brake Booster in decent shape
Indeed. I think I may just get the structural rust addressed and skip over the other items until next WOF and get this one done by my regular mechanic (dont know what I was thinking with VTNZ really)avoid them like the plauge.
