im going to megasquirt my L24 and i have the optical dizzy from my old L20e but i forgot to keep the idle shaft that drives the dizzy/oil pump which i need as the old points dizzy has a different drive.
so if any one for some random reason has one lying round or wants to swap a optical dizzy and drive for a electronic trigger old style dizzy and drive then let me know.

If you get super stuck I've got one you can borrow but I'll need it back/replaced at some stage.

tiz very kind of you, i have been keeping an eye out at pick-a-part and the likes so if i was to borrow i should be able to replace it if not return it.DJZ wrote:If you get super stuck I've got one you can borrow but I'll need it back/replaced at some stage.

Re: L series optical dizzy/oil pump drive
Yes the z18 is a 4cyl but that doesn't matter at all.
what matters is if its got the correct drive on it....which I suspect it wont, it'll prob have the older style like your 280zx on.
I have a 6cyl optical dizzy drive that is going in my 4cyl. They are exactly the same except for the top drive bit.
Maybe get a pic of the z18 one?

Re: L series optical dizzy/oil pump drive
i devised a solution. the only thing that stops it fitting is the splined boss around the shaft. so pop the pin out and take the splined boss off. machine up a new boss that fits over the slightly bigger shaft that the non optical dizzys run. pop this on and wallah optical dizzy fits non optical dizzy drive and no play in it what so ever. even pretty much all lines up timing wise also.
