might as well,
names dylan peek and im 21. was born in south africa and immigrated to new zealand in 2002. while growing up our family has had a few datsun 1200 utes, wether they be work vehicles or farm hacks. i had always thought they were a bit shitty like build quality etc.
since moving here i have been immersed into the car culture, especially japanese cars, and have now fallen in love with anything datsun now i wish my family still had those 1200 as i cant get enough of them.
i am currently in the process of doing my apprenticeship in the heavy automotive transport side of things which involves servicing and maintaining trucks and trailers. hopefully will become qualified soon so i can spend more money on my cars
when im not being slack scouring through trademe, im out riding my bmx pretty much anywhere that is dry and sunny.
as far as dream cars/ datsuns go, i would have go with a 1200 ute or 2 door sedan, IRS, jap style rims, chin spoiler and fender mirrors and a mad howling 4 banger with ITB's. if that was not at all enough then how about the most awesome of all things internal combustion, the kpgc10 skyline

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Im Bart
I have a datsun 1200 that I've own for ages. It's been through about 4-5 motors in that time. She's currently on blocks, waiting for me to build a new engine for her.
I also have a 510. That will be getting restored at some time in the future.
Unfortunately, I didn't try very hard at school. and I have a dead end job with shit pay. Soooo, things move very slowly.

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Hi im Hayden.
ive got a problem. . . i cant stop buying datsuns
got about 28 i think most of them complete shit boxes but they're good for parts.
well thats what i keep telling myself.
Im 24. im a almost qualified heavy diesel mechanic, apparently one of the longest serving apprentices in the country. well into my 8th year, shud of taken 4, cant rush these things i say. My job involves fixing and servicing tractors and farm machinery.
The small amount of spare time i have is taken up with cars. as i co own a rally 1200 with my best mate Brent. also we've just built a brand new 1200 rally car.
my list of cars include 8 1200s, coupe, vans, sedans, 6 sunnys, 3 720s, 2 620s,
2 280zs, 2 120ys, and a few others 910 c20 410 etc.
future plans are, build me a house, get a datto girl, build sum sick as datsuns.
some of the projects are, restoration of the old mans 240z. build a 120y rally car running a 2.3, and build up some of my 1200s.

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Righto then...
I'm James. On the right side of forty. I'm married with two boys (10 and 7) whom all leave me little time to work on the project in the garage. I spent 10 years over in the UK and Dubai working within the electronic security industry but came home because it's a great place to raise kids.
Next door neighbour had a white S30 (model unknown) when I was probably about 8 or so. I liked it more and more and that was that. A mad mate of mine introduced me to the world of Datsun's while on a block course in Wellington. First Datsun was a 1200 coupe (GC2495), it got the usual mods and spend many a day blasting to Piha and down to CHCH, in fact all over the place. Sold it to a mate then started my big OE.
Came home with the want to get back into a hobby and made the decision to get a 240z with a Ducati 916 a very close second. Still working towards one day driving the little rocket.

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Im Chris , Im old enough for cheap car insurance in 4 weeks even tho i dont have a car insured
Im a fully qualified Coachbuilder ive been out of my apprenticeship about 3 years.
Ive built motorhomes, truck bodies, buses, horse floats ,trailers,Diesel maintenance and all sorts of stuff.
Ive been made redundant twice in the last year and that has landed me at Designline this week building roofs on a jig which is kinda waste of my skills but its money and motorhomes have largely dried up due to that thing called recession
I become addicted to Datsuns when i started my apprenticeship with Wal(2doors) He picked me up one morning in his 2dr 1200.
From then it was true love.
I started then with a 1200 ute,
I stripped it back to a bare shell and put it on my rotisiree and it bacame evident the rust was to bad so it was dumped and the 1200 wagon popped up and has been my first true love for about 3 years now.Getting a full modification and rebuild
Then came the paddock mission down in Waimate where i came across the 260C coupe with my now brother in law Jesus
He was looking for a old school project and he wanted a crown but i later convinced him to go halves in the coupe with me so thats sitting quietly in my mates back yard until the wagon finished.
Then the 720 ute came along, Brought it off my good mate mush and proceded to make it more myown after evryone kept sayng yo got mushs ute today?
So i rat rodded it. Rusting rising sun on the bonnet. Red steels and thick whitewalls
And a few more touches of my own
And while this love wit Datsuns was goin on i felt i had a bit more love to give and i meet Erin my now Wife and and i gave her some mc Lovin
and shared with her my love for Datsuns
She is now the very proud owner of a Datsun cherry sedan
So there it is the last 5 years of my life have been evrything Datsun
All my mates are involved some way with Datsun , SO may good times and many more to come with Datsuns.
And als0 have a thing with Datsun memrobilia that ive spent far too mcuh on the last few years
ANd a side note. Im very proud to say im one of two people i know that has not only Tattooed Datsun on my left forearm. Ive also got it branded on my right butt check

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Heya I'm Sandeep, a 21 year old guy who grew up in Ngatea (small farm town in the Waikato)!
Been up in Auckland for the past few years and in my fourth year doing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Auckland Uni geek to th emax
I've loved Datsuns (especially the 1600) since I was about 12 years old, living out in the Waikato definitely influenced that! So surprised by the amount of people who don't know what a Datsun is up here in aucks.. but then again, it really isn't all that surprising.
Well anyway, I have finally purchased a 1600! Just hope the transporter dude gets it up to Ngatea from Te Puke in good shape.
Yup this is gonna be done up in my old home town, with my mate Josh on his farm. Mum and dad weren't too chuffed about me doing it up on the side of our house haha.
Build thread will start soon

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
Hi all, I'm Kerry.
Like all of you, I've been dicking around with cars all my life. Started out on the small Fords but then one day me and my boss at the time, Neil Fraser, spotted a nice little 1600 for sale. We bought it and I have never owned an Escort since. Way cheaper and way faster. We ran it in Targa in '99 with a 2.4l L20, heaps of torque, great rally engine. I didn't really use it that much so one day when me and my bro spotted an FJ20DET 910 Bluebird race car for sale we bought that and sold the 1600 to a mate. The Bluebird unfortunately ended out to be a complete sack so we stripped it and most of the bits are now going into an S13 Silvia that we are building to run in SS2000. It'll run an NA SR20VE. I also own one of the ex Lendich utes that everyone seems to own at the mo. I've layed mine right out with custom front struts and old school 14" x 6" three piece Volks. It runs a warm 1500 and 5 spd.
I own a company in Auckland called Top Gear Autotech. Check out my website and if I can help any of you out just let me know. I know that sounds like a plug, sorry.
I hope to come to the next gathering you guys have so I can meet you all face to face. Take it easy.
Kerry.
