Bit of a small Update

I have recently acquired The LSD guts from a Mechanical R200 Long nose Diff, and so begins the long and drawn out process of finding all the missing clutch pack parts.

According to hybrid Z These are the two parts lists for the Original Street and Comp Diffs sold back in the day

45 lbs:
Qty Part #
4 38432-N3210 friction plate 1.70mm
4 38433-N3210 friction disk 1.75mm
1 38433-N3211 friction disk 1.85mm
2 38435-N3210 spring plate 1.75mm
2 38436-N3210 spring disk 1.75mm

75 lbs:
2 38432-N3210 friction plate 1.70mm
4 38433-N3210 friction disk 1.75mm
1 38433-N3211 friction disk 1.85mm
4 38435-N3210 spring plate 1.75mm
2 38436-N3210 spring disk 1.75mm

So after a quick word with my Engineer he has made Friction plates and Friction Discs from scratch before and had them case hardened and ran them with no problems.

Or I could take my chance and order the parts from Nissan Race Shop . com
http://www.nissanraceshop.com/product/3 ... 38433n3210" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.nissanraceshop.com/product/3 ... 38433n3211" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.nissanraceshop.com/product/3 ... 38432n3210" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One Problem is the Spring Disc, it seems nobody sells the spring discs, which puts me in a bit of a bind, I would have to have replace the Spring Disc with an extra Friction disc / Replace the Spring plate with a friction plate.

so my configuration would look as follows

JIT custom clutch pack with no springs
Qty Part #
6 38432-N3210 friction plate 1.70mm
6 38433-N3210 friction disk 1.75mm
1 38433-N3211 friction disk 1.85mm

My thoughts were that it is a heavy car with more torque than HP which could be pretty hard on a diff, If my logic serves me correctly having a 6 clutch LSD will make a good Upgrade, but not having the spring disc/plate combo might mean the LSD is a bit less progressive.( going the best i can from what i have read on hybrid Z )

So given that the 3.0 V6 is a fairly big torquey boosted engine do you guys think that adding the extra clutches will cause any problems ?

I hear there might be a bit more clutch chatter, but i also hear that you can add friction modifier until the chatter goes away and increasing the drive ability of it.

If anybody has any opinions to offer I would love to hear from you, this is a street car that will be seeing some autocross and track days.

You could try asking The Diff Shop whether they've got any spare bits lying around? They've always been good to deal with for me.

apparently this is what Ben Diggles did to the r200 in his RS-X S12 gazelle drag car.

ran a 9.13 so must be ok :lol:

he said it was a lot tighter, for and did bite a lot harder, but not really a daily driver sort of thing...
they are pretty good diffs in standard form. personally i'd be trying to find the spring discs.

The Diff Shop, gotcha will give them a call tomorrow.

It might be possible to have the extra clutches and still go for a Conservative Breakaway torque, But what you said makes me worried because while its not a Daily car I don't to be under steering around like a Locked diff either.

So this is the LSD I acquired minus clutch plates.

Then as if it was meant to be this popped up for me

Not actually Nismo but a complete clutch pack setup from an R32 GTR in good nick, I checked all the part numbers and everything is compatible

That's an awesomely good stroke of luck. You'll need to use the original centre splined parts, the GTRs have bigger axles.

Today I spent Ages cleaning and preparing the LSD housing for re assembly, so after hours of removing surface rust and carefully cleaning all the surfaces, i then did the same and cleaned and prepared all the clutch plates etc. It is now perfectly clean and fully assembled in its housing, its off to my Diff Man to have some Preload shims made ( might not be required ) and breakaway torque checked.I'm going for 55 Ft LBS, a Factory CLSD in an 1987 Z31 was 45 Ft LBs , and the Oldschool Nismo comp LSD was 60 Ft LBs, so hopefully I have made a good choice. So with the Diff In Capable Hands I went out to shed to find my Z32 Finned rear diff cover. I spent hours cleaning this dam thing, keyed it up and shot it with high temp ceramic black and then hardened with a heat gun for durability.

The mounting bolts were too wide for a Z31 Diff Mount So I welded an extra plate on the rear to move the mounting holes out, and then fully welded in several different places, cooling in between so the rubber didn't burn.

Still needs finished but it looks pretty factory/oem

Measuring Some backlash and stuff before diss assembly, Nissan Spec Says 0.13 to 0.18 I Measured 0.16 so considering its done over 300,000 I'm fairly happy with it. Gear mesh is Correct, i don't even need engineers blue as the shiny contact patch is so obvious after so many kms.

Image

Diff Cover looks pretty nice in there, only the Mounting holes in the Finned cover are to suit an M10 bolt where the existing holes are for M8 Bolts. I guess I need to find some round bar, center drill it and machine down to correct OD to slide in between.
