L18e Re-build

Post by Lang Inder »

After the engine in the silvia blew a head gasket we decided to give it a full re-build for some reliability, and hopefully more power, so specs as follows.

- Fully re-build bottom end with new rings, big end bearings, main bearings , seals etc.
- Block was hoaned the cleaned and then sprayed back to orgional blue.
- Head was stripped right down and plained to remove warping, had 10thou off bottom and 8thou off top, hopefully raise compression abit.
- Head re-assembled, new valve guide seals etc,
- Camshaft ground by kelfords
- New Timing chain, new water pump with viscous clutch
- New plugs, leads, coil, thermostat
- Slightly ported extractors, 2 1/4 inch outlet.
- Re-built inlet manifold and injection set-up etc
- Injectors cleaned, flow tested and new seals ($35 ea!)
- Full 2 1/4 inch exhaust to 4 inch dumpy
- Lightened flywheel
- K&N Pod filter
- Standard ecu
- New Clutch & Pressure plate

All put through a 5 speed gearbox

I took quite a few pic's of the build so i'll post them all up, didn't manage to get any pics of re-building internals though.

Any ideas or input on the build would be great.

Had to go all out on a genuine nissan intake manifold gasket, way more expensive but the quality makes up for it

Also gave the engine bay a polish while engine was out, and tried to tidy some wiring up,

So engine is currently in car and just finishing exhaust off, will put up a video of it running. Car is also going to be dynoed to get an idea of power and torque range so will try and get a video of it on the dyno.

Awsome.
I can't wait to see what the dyno figures will be. Let me know if you need any L18E parts i have a couple little bits and pieces spare.
Im prob not going to run mine up in factory form in the car any more, Will most likely go with Dan and jump straight to the CA18DET ECU.
Unless i have to much problem getting it done then i'll just have to throw my other manifold on and run it how it was intended to be.

What did kelfords charge you for the regrind and do you have any specs on it?

You have done a fantastic job making it one very tidy looking package. This is exactly how i though my engine would look back when i started it up on the ground for the first time.

And i actually lost the spec sheet for the cam grind, but it was ground to suit the injection set up, i'll post a picture of it up when i find it
