i had the same problem with mine. pulled it off and found the gasket between the carb and manifold was damages. tried to get one, but was told i would have to buy a carb rebuild kit. so i just put some sealant on there and that sorted it. just make sure the plastic spacer thing that is there as well isnt cracked

thanks for the replies!

dat620- my one dosnt look like that, its got a tiny sight glass on the front about the size of a 5c piece.I cant see any nikki markings on it either. altho that carb looks like my old j15.

dirtyleppa- sounds like my issue exactly. is there a gasket as well as the plastic spacer? might just pull it apart and use a liquid sealer as suggested.hopefully the spacer isnt cracked or perished.

Damn haha theres one Ive got here thats a NOS item I thought it was a J15 one too but its a bit bigger thought it might be for a L type engine.
You can by gasket maker from repco then I normally just get out one of those scouple looking craft knives and carve out my own gaskets

yeah i think that would be the best idea however it seems the leak has now stopped, which is strange. I also find that sometimes the idle 'sticks' say if you've been driving along at 2k rpm and pull up to an intersection, the revs dont drop of they stay at 2k rpm and need a quick blip of the throttle for them to return to normal. What would be the cause of this?
