I love it when shit goes according to plan!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks to Simon for lending me some battery leads, and a coil & ballast resistor.
Threw the loom in last night (what a mess) and finished assembling engine, put in some fluids, and hand rotated the engine and oiled the bores.

Rigged up a couple of flip switches for power & starter motor (couldnt find a key for the ignition)

Also bungee cord to hold in my lawn mower Gerry can ;)

Started pretty quickly once carbs filled up with gas

motor sounds nice and tight, and no trace of the horrid noises it was making when it last ran (remember it turned turtle when it was in Wilbur on Akaroa eve last year) pretty noisey as no exhaust system, just dumping out of my flows

Thanks for the comments fellas.

I must admit I hardly slept last night in anticipation of the startup tonight - some would say that is sad, but I am sure most of you guys on here understand ?? :?

Shane as far as paint goes, its all part of my master plan, which is:
a) spend the next month or two and get the EFI /ECU & ITB's up and running.
b) Rip motor out, and send car out to get engine bay prepped & painted
c) Bring back hom fit out engine, drivetrain & interior completely, and get new exhaust system
d) take back out and do final panel dress work and paint exterior
e) Fit new rubber kit, glass & exterior fittings
f) cert / reg / wof
g) :burnout:

My target is to have it on the road in 6 months

All subject to time & money as usual...

that money could go to you if you want to do the rust repairs...... if i throw the money at my coupe time may not be as much??? hopefully.
rust is the only thing holding me back now..... and the knowledge to remove my brake booster/ fuel line from tank.

that one day you speak of will be done in less time than kitch as he has had the beautiful joy of owning other datsuns inbetween, i cant afford these.... but i can afford the repairs on my car........

but maybe not to the perfection of kitchs marvellous exception of a coupe.

Havent really progessed much since last weeks startup, although I powered up my ECU, and tried to see if it would fire the new coils.
No luck. dug a bit deeper, and looks like no signal from VR sensor, hence no RPM signal and no spark.
played around a bit with my bodgey bracket, and looks like I had wrong polarity to sensor, and too much clearance to the trigger wheel (was about 3-4mm). need to make up a sturdy bracket to get down to 0.5-1mm.
Also finally got the Toyota TPS working, weird setup. 5V ref signal + Signal return + earth, but took be ages to work out that the 4 pin plug, has a terminal blanked off on the TPS, turned out that one was the variable signal! so the one I thought was signal must have been just the idle reference signal I think, Toyota 4AGE must work differently? or maybe I have done it wrong still? but it seems to work properly.

Bit of a mess, trying to test everything, there are wires for africa.
