Advised bulkhead repairs are now finished, sealed, and epoxy primered. Guards can now be re-fitted and all the front end can be put back together (once things dry).

Hey guys,

The latest update is that the 1200 is making its way back into Christchurch tonight!! Very exciting  Will be towing the vehicle back to Damon's from Kaiapoi, so been busy on getting the Subaru REG'd, WOF'd and ready as well. What a costly exercise...

The datto is pretty much ready to go with the manifold and extractors finished and fitted, with the exception of the rust repairs still to be completed on the lower rear guards (the exhaust tip is still to be completed also). Neither of these will stop us getting the car up and running which will be good, as I look forward to at least having her on the road and being able to enjoy driving her over the Christmas/New Year period (before I decide next/long term steps). Was cool to hear mush had some heat proof paint left over from a previous job, and he has kindly painted the extractors before fitting them (just to tidy them up a bit). This should at least stop them rusting in a hurry where the paint has burnt off from the modifications we had to make for things to fit... The exhaust system has also been remounted, plus mush has done an awesome job of cleaning up my second-hand inlet manifold...it looks brand new!!

Manifold and extractor images are as follows:

It has been agreed that the rust in the rear guards will be temporarily covered up so that there's no issues when going for a new WOF (everything will hopefully go fine and we will be back on the road!). At least we are now aware of what's under there and what needs to be done, so the task can be worried about in the New Year (and mush said he would complete and fit the exhaust tip when possible - advised it's not a big job). For now, the rear guards have a light skim of filler back on them, and have also been primed to keep them sealed (just until further/future repairs can be completed).

Rear guard images are as follows:

Lastly, mush has also removed a broken off bolt in the chassis rail where the bash plate mounts underneath (nice observation/attention to detail), then refitted the guard. Some more sound deadening sheet has also been applied to the floor around the gearbox tunnel (which should help significantly with some of the road noise), and the interior has subsequently been all refitted too.

Remaining images are as follows:

I'm very excited at being so close to getting a proper engine start completed and hearing how my rebuilt A15 and the new exhaust system sounds! Been a long time coming :) A lot more still to do, so more updates to come... Stay tuned!

finally.... great perserverance nick, and excellent work Mush

Get it reg / wof'd and get some run up miles on that A15 by coming down to Timmers over the Xmas break and catching up for a beer and a yarn

I like your plan to use it over summer, then revisit the rear guards, and I assume paint over the winter, then be all go for Akaroa..

Kitch, the run in drive to Timaru sounds like a great plan. Will drop you a line closer to the time to sort something.

Regarding paint, provided everything is complete and ready to go, paint job over the winter period will be the go (still got to settle on a colour...).

Cheers to mush for all the work so far. I have no problems selling his services to anyone. Not only an awesome job, but a GC too! Always feel well informed and updated.

Bring on next Akaroa!
