no offence taken, grandads that can panel and paint, and tell epic yarns about the good old days before osh and shit, are about the best good bastards there are. this country and many others were built by the likes of them, and there work ethic and hard living would reduce some young people to tears these days if they tried to mimic it. not enough of them around though.

are these the ideal tyres for my rim setup? same as what bede runs on his 1200 coupe on his 13x7s i believe....

keeping in mind i want the rpm at 60mph to be no higher than 3000rpm, so i dont have to install gigantic speakers to drown out engine noise

bede is running 165/60/13s on his coupe. 165/65/13s are the same diameter as the standard 155/80/12s. I'm not sure what a standard a12 with 4 speed revs at 100 kph but its probably around 3k

they would be slightly taller than the factory size , but you are stretching it over a wide rim, so in a sense would make it rev slightly less at 100kph.

Out of the bunch that is on that site either the Hankook or toyo are the best - because you are buying a more common size for cars these days (miras and altos etc) id go for the best you can afford and up to $130 per tyre is still good buying. (they used to be around $200 per tyre)

Also you want good rubber as you are going narrow (not much rubber holding you on the road)

and since i just got the rust dealt to the budget is limited..... how much difference is there in the extra $30 i would spend per tyre? surely they all have to pass some type of nz road spec to be allowed to be sold? obviously never brought tyres before so please excuse the ignorance and lack of knowledge in general........

Coming along well.

yea slowly but surely its all coming together! final sand of engine bay tommorow morning before primer goes on, then move onto the body itself...

You want a better, longer lasting tyre. You will find the more expensive tyres are more comfortable to drive on too. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely relevant with tyres.

I used to work for both firestone and Goodyear in Hawkes Bay - Cheap tyres just have no grip - especially in the wet - usually they are made cheaply by removing key ingredients that make them ride and wear better.

When buying tyres try to go for good well known brands eg Toyo, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Khumo etc - anything like Clear, Goodride, Triangle etc will probably wear the same but have little grip and are usually very noisy - i drove a VT commy once that had two triangles on the front and you could here the road noise over the seatbelt beeper.
