Datsun 521!

Post by DATSUN521 »

Hi guys this is the Datsun 521 Mounted on 720 chassis with a L20B me and my partners dad are building. We have to hook up the breaks up and clutch and finish locking the diff but aside from that and tidying it up outside and in cab, we are done. The L20 has twin carbs, extractors, forged internals, oversized valves and more aggressive cam, etc. But unfortunately the original 720 body was unsavable, hence we bought the 521. The original plan was to dump the L20 in the 521 But after comparing the 2 chassis we decided it would make a better vehicle just swapping the 2 shells over and keeping all the 720 running gear complete. This also ment we didnt have to strip the 720 chassis and put all the parts onto the 521. Examples of problems we would have had was the 521 is drum brake all round were as the 720 already has disc up front. The 521 engine mounts are horizontal to the chassis and the 720 ones already fit the L20 so need no modifying. All of the steering components are half, maybe even less, in size in the 521. the 521 only needed very minor Adjusting to fit the 720 chassis. While the diff is being welded up we are sourcing some lowering blocks and mags for it. We have 2 15x10's for the back end that need tidying up :) but will be going on. If you have ANY 521 parts let us know, Thanks :)

You are the second person on this forum to do the 521 cab swap onto a 720 chassis. Dattochriswagon did the same swap:

I recently picked it up for my nephew.

We should probably talk more about bits we need and collaborate lol.
My orangatang 510 here.
