Aerocatch Bonnet Latch System

Post by 85_Z31 »

Hi Guys

Some of you might remember a year or so back when i took the Z for the test drive and the Bonnet came up at speed and tried to suicide itself.

So anyway I was thinking about installing some Genuine Aerocatch bonnet latches.

Does anybody have any feedback on good or bad points about it ?

I'm not a huge fan of having anything but I would rather install some for piece of mind, not worried about how they look as they are tidy and have a function.

Discuss if you will ;)

Im not into them but my work mate has had them on two of his cars and he loves them.
After awhile they got a bit hard to open but that was his only issue.

Not being a smart arse but was your bonnet fully closed when it came up?
To be road legal a bonnet has to have 2X latch points. On a factory car this is the point where its fully closed and then when you pull the cable it pops to the second point.

With the above its 1 latch either side. Eg you couldn't remove your factory system completely and fit one of thoes latches to the center as that would be only 1X latch point = fail WOF.

(there some useless information for people)

I can't really see how the factory latch can fail if its looked after eg isn't rusted off or seized degrease and lube it up should be working mint again.

I replaced windscreens as part of my window making job for 18months and saw a few times where bonnets had come up. Every time the owner hadn't bothered to close it properly down to the second latch point.

When it came up it was fitted and adjusted poorly by my, im happy to admit it was totally my fault.

I'm still not happy with the oem bonnet catch and safety latch, they are adjusted well and work fine but i'm not real happy with them.

Plan would be 2x latches on the outside edge of the bonnet and leave oem stuff in place giving 3x points of attachment and wof pass.

maybe like this

They are not the best looking but they are functional and have proven themselves in the aviation industry .

Functional is what my car is all about really.

I have them in my silvia I love them I got them cause I didn't want blingi bonnet pins. Be better if they weren't plastic and if you don't keep them lubricated with crc they can be annoying to use
I do like the fact that lock extra security
