I wouldn't think you would get much change from 5-6k these days. possibly more,
There would be better people to ask though

The red one at the Rolleston auction had a bidder prepared to go to $8K and that didn't have original carpet and a certainly wasn't mint.
Re: datsun 1200 coupes
Would love to pick one up but the coupes are getting very hard to find lately, so i bet there are few guys sitting around with some money waiting for one to come up.kb110 wrote:The red one at the Rolleston auction had a bidder prepared to go to $8K and that didn't have original carpet and a certainly wasn't mint.
Look at how long that orange 1600 hung around for 10.5k

That was a pretty decent 1200 coupe for its age, an ideal project to spruce up.kb110 wrote:The red one at the Rolleston auction had a bidder prepared to go to $8K and that didn't have original carpet and a certainly wasn't mint.

Re: datsun 1200 coupes
Back when I bought my 1st 1200 coupe, I got one not too dissimilar to that one for $300. (Although it was back in '97)

Re: datsun 1200 coupes
My 2C
I paid $2200 for my project coupe, was 95% complete, live (black) plates, usual rust, ran like a bag of shit, bad brakes, hadnt been on road for about 8 years I think. that was about 5 years ago, before the market started to raise the value of the old Datsun 1200 coupe. would think if I was buying in todays market I would be looking at $3.5-4K outlay for the same car. if it was reg/wof'd and running properly, then in todays market I would think it would cost more like 5K (as it is pretty much 100% original).
That coupe at the Rolly auction, was as clean and original as you are likely to find in NZ IMHO, it needed a couple of sills, engine tune, brake recondition and general service, and recompliance, and so would owe you like $10K reg/wof'd. The wounds are still a bit fresh for Luke, so I won't talk too much more about "the one that got away"...
Do you have your eyes on one and wondering what its worth, or surely you are not thinking of selling your one Aaron!.....
Yours of course is the exception to the rule when it comes to coupes in awesome original condition!
I like the fact the value of coupes is on the climb, but thats due to the over-capatilisation of mine...

Re: datsun 1200 coupes
One with original carpet would be a real find! The black/blue "carpet" fitted to coupes was some synthetic fibre Japanese product and very prone to wear and holes. Faded easily too.
